WHAT IS LIFESTYLE MEDICINE & FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE?
Lifestyle Medicine is a new medical field that investigates how our behaviour and environment influence our health for the better or worse. Functional Medicine is a science-based approach to uncover the root causes of chronic disease and restore health by addressing those. It combines Lifestyle Medicine with the principles of Systems Biology and its own methodological approach. Systems Biology is the research field about how everything in our body is connected and influences one another in one big system. A comprehensive Functional Medicine approach methodologically and systematically assesses all those factors in a person's life and then addresses them with a personalised plan.
With these complex considerations Functional Medicine is at the forefront of transferring the latest medical research into clinical practice and inspiring further research to look for new directions how to address today's chronic disease epidemic. It is the future of medicine for complex chronic diseases now.

WHAT IS HEALTH COACHING?
This is what the Institute of Coaching at McLEAN Hospital, a Harvard Medical School Affiliate, has to say about health coaching:
"Health and wellness coaches work with clients to improve their health, vitality, and well-being by engaging in behaviors that have been proven to improve health and prevent disease including weight loss, fitness, nutrition, stress coping, sleep, mind-body and positive psychology interventions. The outcome of health and wellness coaching is expanded capacity for lifestyle change and sustainable lifestyle change. Many people struggle with something that is damaging their well-being, e.g. uncontrolled stress, excess weight, life balance, low energy, poor fitness, inadequate levels of positive emotions, or a medical condition. They find it difficult to engage, day in day out, in investing in their health and well-being in order to foster vitality and avoid a preventable illness. [...]
Coaches help people overcome the struggle, and build resources such as self-empathy, self-motivation, self-awareness, mindfulness, new insights and perspectives, confidence, optimism, and resilience, and make changes that last. Their new lifestyles become embedded into who they are."
